TV anchor to speak about self improvement

Riceboro native Dawn Baker, a WTOC television anchor and reporter, will host a leadership lecture, “Become the Best You,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Armstrong Center, 13040 Abercorn St. in Savannah. This event is free and open to the public.
Baker earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Howard University and joined WTOC as a reporter in 1989. She is the author of the book “Dawn’s Daughter: Everything a Woman Needs to Know,” which focuses on changing the world by empowering girls and women.
Baker serves on the board of directors for the Better Business Bureau, Reardon Center, Wesley Community Center, American Diabetes Association, American Red Cross Bone Marrow Program and Goodness & Mercy Foundation Inc. She has traveled to Ghana, Nigeria and Guatemala on mission trips and is an annual host for the Children’s Miracle Network and the College Fund Telethons, as well as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade.
Baker has won numerous awards including The 100 Black Men of Savannah’s Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award, the Top Ladies of Distinction Woman of the Year Award, the Savannah State University Southern Regional Press Institute Service Award and the League of Women Voters Excellence in Journalism Award.
