In Europe, Christkindlesmarkts are as common as flea markets in America. They’re Christmas markets held annually in Nuremberg, Germany.
Ludowici resident Kadee Dasher, who was born in Germany, began holding her own localized version of a Christkindlesmarkt five years ago outside of her Kadee’s Korner shop. The event has become a favorite in Long County, with local crafters and vendors setting up booths to display their products to potential customers. This year, patrons can check out a variety of candles, custom fans, toys, scarves, sweatshirts, T-shirts, purses, hats, toys and Christmas wreathes and decorations. Free hot chocolate and homemade cookies are available for everyone to enjoy, and pizza and drinks are available for purchase.
“Having Christkindlesmarkt allows local artists and crafters a week to highlight and sell their products. It also gives customers a unique experience while they are shopping, and everyone can find something here if they are having a hard time finding the right gift for that special someone,” Dasher said.
The Ludowici Christkindlesmarkt began Monday and closes at 6 p.m. today. It is at 33 Lee St. For more information, call 545-2266.
