Lady Tide pick up two wins at tourney

Long County girls defend the goal as a Mount Pisgah Christian player gets ready to shoot Saturday in the Lady Tide’s 44-21 win.

The Long County High School girls basketball team got a boost over the weekend, picking up two wins in the Portal Christmas Tournament.
Friday, the Lady Tide took on Georgia Military School in the first round. Long County put up only 15 points in the first half and trailed, but in the third and fourth periods, the Lady Tide exploded for 25 points to tie at 40 at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Lady Tide played stellar defense, shutting out Milledgeville. The offense sealed the 44-40 win.
The leading scorer for the Lady Tide was Katie Estill who had 11 points. Trinity Hall put in 2, Samantha Garcia had 3 and Keke Calhoun, Malayka Elix and Kat Wingate each tipped in 4. Tyronica Johnson and Elexxus Wrighton had 5, and Keshawdra Cooper added 6.
According to coach Brian Todd, the Lady Tide picked up the other win Saturday, 44-21 over Mount Pisgah Christian.
With the victories, the Long County girls improved their overall record to 3-8.
On Monday, the Lady Tide took on Portal High School in the tournament. Results from that game will be in this Friday’s paper.
According to MaxPreps.com, the Blue Tide boys also played over the weekend in the Thomasville Holiday Tournament, losing to Randolph-Clay High School on Thursday, 84-57, and to Mitchell County, 101-63, on Friday. However, the scores have not been confirmed by any official from Long County High School.
