Freeze warning issued for area

POSTED: January 6, 2014 9:22 a.m.

A freeze warning is in effect for Southeast Georgia, including Liberty  and Long Counties. But no storms are predicted.

"There is no severe weather currently forecasted for Georgia over the next three days," a report from the Liberty County Emergency Management Agency said Monday morning.

The rain that was being swept through the area this morning was being pushed by a cold front that will dramatically drop temperatures.

The National Weather Service's forecast said the temperature was 50 early this morning but will drop into the low 40s through the afternoon as the sky clears. Tonight's low will be in the upper teens. Highs Tuesday will be in the mid 30s and the lows Tuesday/Wednesday night will also be in the teens, according to the service's forecast.

No precipitation is expected during that time, but patches of ice are possible from residual water near roads, authorities warn.

Temperatures Wednesday are expected to climb back up to more seasonable levels and could be back in the mid 60s with lows in the upper 40s by Thursday.
