Blue Tide pick up two wins; Lady Tide slump continues with two more losses

The Long County High School boys’ basketball team finally ended its slump by picking up two wins over the weekend.
However, the Lady Tide continued to struggle, dropping both of their games.
The Blue Tide on Friday defeated Toombs County, 67-61, in Lyons and on Saturday topped Jeff Davis, 66-58, in Hazlehurst. The two victories ended a seven-game losing streak by the Blue Tide dating to Jan. 4. With the two wins, Long County improved its overall record to 6-15 and its Region 2B-AA mark to 4-6.  In the sub-region standings, as of Tuesday, the Blue Tide was fourth behind McIntosh County (6-1 in the region and 12-8 overall), Metter High School (4-3 and 7-13) and Benedictine (4-6 and 6-15).
The Lady Tide lost to Toombs County, 41-30, and to Jeff Davis, 46-35. With the two losses, Long County has dropped nine games in a row. The Lady Tide’s overall record is 4-18 and their region mark is 2-8. In the region standings, as of Tuesday morning they were behind Vidalia (10-0 in the region and 15-5 overall), McIntosh County (9-0, 13-7), St. Vincent’s Academy (7-3, 10-8), Jeff Davis (6-4, 13-7), Toombs County (5-6, 8-10), Bryan County (5-7, 10-12) and Atkinson County (4-6, 8-9).
The Long County teams are scheduled to be back at home Thursday to face McIntosh County on senior night. The game was scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed due to bad weather. The girls’ game begins at 6:30 and the boys’ game follows at 8.
