FAIRBANKS, Alaska — A Fort Wainwright soldier was found dead Jan. 18 in a Fairbanks, Alaska motel room, according to an Army news release.

Foul play was not suspected, according to the release, though the death is under investigation.

The body of Pvt. Ryan Christopher Brewton, 21, of Ludowici was discovered by room service after Brewton missed his check-out time. Fairbanks police concluded he died from a gunshot wound.

Brewton was a human-resources specialist assigned to the 5th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, part of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

Brewton joined the Army in February and arrived in Fairbanks in August.
