Cardboard boat regattas coming

Using only cardboard and duct tape, could you build a boat that will carry a two-person crew the length of a swimming pool?

Cardboard Boat Regattas are scheduled at pools at Newman Fitness Center at Stewart and Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter at 10 a.m. on Feb. 22. There’s no charge to compete and there will be prizes.

There will be three categories: kids, kid/adult and adult. There also will be a prize for the Best-Looking Boat.

Active duty, family and other authorized facility users can participate.

Ladies on Links

A free Ladies on the Links clinic, from 9-11 a.m. Feb. 15 at Hunter Golf Course, covers various aspects of the game, from rules to swing and putting mechanics. Participants are asked to register by Feb. 14. For more information, call 315-9115.

 

Pet services

Construction has been delayed, allowing Fort Stewart's Pet Boarding Facility to continue offering full boarding services and accommodating dogs of all sizes.  

Once construction begins, boarding will be limited to dogs 20 pounds and below, and no cats. Construction will not affect daycare and grooming.

Indoor cycling classes

Indoor cycling classes are being offered Mondays from 5-6 p.m. and Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at 4th IBCT Fitness Center. 

The classes are to improve cardiovascular endurance and promote weight loss. There is a $3 fee per class. Space is limited due to the number of bikes available.

Youth Action Council

Teens can help improve their quality of life by participating in a free Youth Action Council meeting Feb. 19 from 5-6 p.m. at the Youth Activity Center, behind Diamond Elementary.

The council provides opportunities to meet new friends, to have fun and make a difference in the community.

Cheerleading showcase   

The public is invited to a free, second annual Fort Stewart Cheerleading Showcase on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. in the Youth Sports and Fitness Center. Cheer squads will entertain with cheers and dances they learned during the basketball season.

Skeet/trap shoot

The quarterly 50-bird skeet shoot will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Skeet & Trap Range on Fort Stewart.

A minimum of four shooters is required per division (novice, intermediate, expert, ladies/youth, trap), and cash prizes will be awarded based on number of entries.

Lunch will be provided.

The cost is $25 per person (skeet or trap, 50 birds), $40 (both, 100 birds). Open to all military ID cardholders. Registration accepted that day.

CG's Par 3 Golf Scramble

All 18 holes of Maj. Gen. Murray’s Golf Scramble Feb. 28 at Taylors Creek Golf Course will be played as par 3s, with yardage ranging from 99-225, teeing off from the same marker.

Play begins at noon. The $35 per person cost includes golf car fees, range balls and prizes. Sign up until Feb. 28. Size of the field will determine prizes.

Company level soccer

Companies can play soccer and prove who has the best team on Fort Stewart or Hunter. They should submit a memo to the Bennett Sports Complex on Stewart or Squires Sports Complex at Hunter by March 3.

Play will begin March 10, with games at 6 and 7 p.m.

Camp with BOSS

Join BOSS for a Single Soldier Retreat weekend of fishing, hiking, swimming and everything else Coffee County State Park in Nicholls offers March 7-9.

The $20-per person cost covers transportation and food. Participants are asked to register by March 3 at the Stewart Leisure Travel office in the PX Furniture Mall or Hunter Leisure Travel in building 1286. For more information, call 475-202-9593.

 

Bass tournament

A Catch and Release Bass Tournament will begin at 6:30 a.m. March 15 at Pond 26, Pineview Lake at Fort Stewart.

Cash prizes are $250 for first-place and $100 for the largest bass. Door prizes will be awarded after weigh-in. 

Anglers can fish from the bank or a boat (trolling motors only). No live bait will be permitted. Boat rentals will be available at Holbrook Equipment Center to military ID cardholders who hold a boat safety certificate.

Participants must have state and Stewart/Hunter fishing permits, (unless younger than 15). Fees vary and are based on registration.

The tournament is open to everyone, including civilians.

Color run

Registration is under way for an Extreme Color Run April 5 through the Holbrook Outdoor Recreation Area’s trails and tank trails.

The untimed event starts at 10 a.m. and will take runners approximately five kilometers. Runners will be “colored” as they pass different stations.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare for the run. To volunteer, or for more information, call 767-6212.

Run fees are $20 per person until March 24, and $30 March 25 through race day.
