The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce will host the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) award recipients at the Progress Through People Luncheon at noon Feb. 27 at Connection Church on Patriot’s Trail in Flemington.
The STAR program honors Georgia's outstanding high-school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development.
Since its inception, the STAR program has honored more than 24,000 students and the teachers they have selected as having the most influence on their academic achievement.
To obtain the STAR nomination, high-school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of the class based on grade-point average.
“We feel it’s important to be a part of bringing business and civic leaders together to acknowledge and applaud the accomplishments of  these young individuals and their educators,” chamber CEO Leah Poole said. “This is one of our favorite PTP Luncheons because it’s great to see young people excited about their education.”
STAR students and teachers are honored locally, regionally and statewide.
The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce has hosted the Progress Through People Luncheon honoring the STAR students and teachers for more than 30 years.
The cost to attend is $15 for chamber members and $20 for non-members. RSVP by Tuesday by calling 368-4445 or emailing assistant@libertycounty.org.
