Long County soccer teams ground Herons

POSTED: February 26, 2014 11:01 a.m.

For the second time this year, the Long County High School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams beat the teams from Brantley County last Thursday in decisive manners.
Playing in Nahunta, the Lady Tide grounded the Lady Herons, 10-0, while the Blue Tide defeated their counterparts 11-1.
Kelsey Higgason led the Lady Tide with six goals, Nakia Hunter added two goals, and Sam Garcia and Megan Higgason each had one goal.
Lady Tide head coach Brian Todd said his team came out a little sluggish on offense, but managed to get things under control to notch the win.
“We got off to a slow start but eventually got rolling,” he said. “I think it had to do with chemistry, as we added three basketball players into the starting lineup. We also are running a different formation, which we are still tinkering with.”
But even though the Lady Tide’s offense took a while to get rolling, their defense was solid from start to finish en route to their second-straight shutout.
“Taylor Poole really shined on the defensive end, and adding Katie Estill as our goalie has solidified our defense,” Todd said.
No information on the boys’ game was available at press time.
With the wins, both Long County teams were 2-0 as region play began this week. The Tide teams were scheduled to host Toombs County on Tuesday.
Results were unavailable at press time.
