The Long County Public Library has expanded its schedule to offer additional operating hours.
The library is open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday. The library is closed Sunday.
The new operating hours will amount to an increase of 520 operating hours per year.
“Our community is growing rapidly. Our needs have changed over the last few years. The library must evolve to meet these needs. We recognized a need to expand our hours into the evening and longer on Saturdays to fit our neighbors’ diverse schedule demands,” said Joe Sullivan, LCPL Board of Trustees chairman. “No longer do our loyal patrons need to go to the surrounding counties to receive the important services our local library provides due to our operating hours.”
The new evening hours will allow LCPL to expand programming, serve local students after school hours in completion of assignments and adults after office hours. A complete list of programs, updated monthly, can be found at facebook.com/longlibrary.
“We want the idea of a community gathering place to apply to our library,” board Secretary Brent Klinedinst said. “To reinforce this goal, we have updated the library’s mission statement and will be making changes, both dramatic and subtle, to add to the appeal of utilizing our library.”
Recently, through the Long County Board of Commissioners in matching the state’s Major Repair and Renovation grant, LCPL replaced its aging roof before any property was damaged.
The library plans include modernizing the library’s technology and revitalizing the interior of the library facility.
