The Long County High School baseball team’s winning streak came to an end Friday at the hands of Toombs County.
With their bats struggling, the Blue Tide fell to the Bulldogs, 6-1, in Lyons.
“We didn’t play our best game. We had some opportunities that we didn’t capitalize on, and Toombs did,” Blue Tide head coach Tyler Rogers said.
Despite having a solid night, Long County pitcher Phillip Swindell took the loss.  He pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out seven batters, giving up three walks and five hits, and allowing four runs, three of which were earned. Tristan Goodro closed the game. He gave up three hits, two earned runs and a walk and struck out one batter.
Goodro and Cody Fleck batted 2 for 3. Austin Mills was 1 for 2, and Clay Strickland was 1 for 4.
With the loss, the Blue Tide fell to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in Region 2-AA, while the Bulldogs improved to 3-4 and 3-2.
Long County was scheduled to host Metter on Tuesday.
Today, the Blue Tide are scheduled to play at Claxton in a non-region game.
The Tigers come into the game with a 4-3 overall record and are coming off a big 7-1 win over Treutlen County.
Tonight’s contest begins at 5.
