Bradwell Institute earned its second Region 3-AAAAA win Friday at home. The Tigers took down Glynn Academy, 5-2.
The Red Terrors scored their two runs in the first inning off a sacrifice bunt and a hit to center field. The Tigers prevented more runs from crossing the plate when catcher Sage Sammons tossed out a second-base steal attempt. Stephon Felton made a good stop at third and tossed another runner out at second. Tiger first baseman Darrell Hawkins nabbed a wild throw in time to close the inning with an out at first.
Tiger Chris Bell pitched for the win, getting six strikeouts and allowing four hits. Bell also had an RBI hit.
Chris Nunn, Ryan Desbiens and Felton each had one hit. In the third inning, Tiger Maxwell Ashe sacrificed Desibens to second. That’s when Bell lined to center field to put the Tigers on the scoreboard.
In the fourth inning, Nunn hit a grounder passed first that brought in two runs.
Tiger coach Jeff Polk said good hits and a few Terror errors allowed the Tigers to tack on two more runs for the 5-2 win.
Bell then sat down nine of the next 10 batters to seal the deal.
The Tigers are 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the region. The boys host Brunswick Monday at 5 p.m. and Windsor Forest Friday for a double-header that starts at 4:30 p.m.
“Tonight started an eight game home-stand for us,” Polk said. “Tonight we had a better approach with two strikes than we’ve had in past games. We will try to carry this momentum over to next week and further.”
