The Liberty County High School Panthers dropped a 13-2 decision to Statesboro on Tuesday at Panther field.
The visiting Blue Devils pounced early, taking a 5-2 lead in the first inning and added a run in the third. Liberty pitcher Colby Rhea gave up another five runs in the fourth. Jacari Roberts came in to pitch the fifth inning, but the Blue Devils scored two more runs to close the game early due to the run-rule.
Rhea took the loss on the mound. He had three strikeouts and walked two batters. Roberts had two strikeouts and walked one.
Rhea and Roberts both went 1 for 2 with one RBI. One of Roberts’ hits was notched as a double. Curtis Michalowicz was 1 for 3 and scored one run.
The Panthers, who have seven regular-season games remaining, fell to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in Region 3A-AAAA. At the conclusion of the regular season, each AAAA sub-region will have a tournament. Liberty baseball coach Tony Glazer said the top four teams will move on to the playoffs.
Glazer said the Panthers still strive to improve each game.
“Our focus is to continue to put the work in on a daily basis to become a better baseball team,” he said. “Each player needs to continue to work on their craft as we continue to grow as a team.”
