SAVANNAH — Savannah Technical College students won 12 medals at the 2014 SkillsUSA Postsecondary State Conference on March 13-15 at the Georgia International Convention at Atlanta Technical College.
Savannah Tech students brought home three gold medals. Nursing-assisting student Kelvin Conyers of Liberty County, automotive-service technology student Robert Anderson, also of Liberty County, and Amara Kone’ won first place.
Students Rodolfo Hille, Chante’ Bunch, David Jackson and Rodney Johnson won in the bowl-quiz category.
Cosmetology student Laquanda Jones, early childhood education Katelyn Cole, of Liberty County, first-aid/CPR student Thomas Boyd and technical computer applications student Darryl Lewis of Liberty County won second-place silver medals.
STC students won bronze medals in five categories. Internet-working student Francisco Pacheco of Liberty County, nail-care student Latasha Campbell, technical computer applications student Andra Ortiz of Liberty County, nursing-assistant student Yolanda James of Liberty County and welding-sculpture student William Geggatt won third place.
Students from across Georgia took part in the three-day competition. Skills
USA is a career and technical-student organization that annually serves more than 320,000 high-school, college and postsecondary students — and their instructors — in technical, skilled and service-occupation instructional programs.
More than 500 college students take part in the state competition. Savannah Tech’s gold winners in each category will move on to compete on a national level at the 50th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference held June 23-27 in Kansas City, Mo.
