Public Health Week is coming up

POSTED: April 5, 2014 10:00 p.m.

To commemorate National Public Health week on April 7-13, the Coastal Health District has given each day of the week a theme in an effort to send the public several health-related messages.
“Public health continues to grow and evolve, but preventing disease and promoting healthy communities will always be our goal,” said Dr. Diane Z. Weems, health director for the Coastal Health District, which serves Liberty, Long, Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn and McIntosh counties
• Monday is “Be Healthy from the Start” day, which stresses implementing good nutrition and safety habits at home.
• Tuesday is “Don’t Panic” day, which highlights public-health professionals’ efforts to help communities withstand the impacts of natural and man-made disasters.
• Wednesday is “Get Out Ahead” day, which focuses on prevention as a nationwide priority.
• Thursday is “Eat Well” day, which gives the public a glimpse into the complex system that keeps the nation’s food safe and healthy.
• Friday is “Be the Healthiest Nation in One Generation” day, which stresses the need for communities to band together against disturbingly unhealthy trends.
