Both Long County High School soccer teams on Monday fell to ranked teams during Region 2-AA action in Savannah.
The Blue Tide once again lost a game by one goal as they fell to Benedictine Military School, 2-1.
The Cadets came into the game as the No. 4 AA team in the state, according to Eurosport-Scoreboard.com.  Aron Nervarez scored the Tide’s lone goal.
Long County head coach Paul Austin said he was proud of his players, but felt that they were a little tight in the first half.
“We knew this was a big game. I think we tried not to make a mistake in the first half … I feel we played our game the second half, and then just ran out of time,” he said.  “I’m very proud of my guys. We have gone head to head with each of the top teams, and I feel like we are so close.”
With the loss, Long County fell to 4-6 overall and 2-6 in the region, while the Cadets improved to 8-2 overall. Each Blue Tide loss this season has been by one goal.
“I think we are growing up, and these are growing pains,” Austin said. “I feel, as a team, we are very young and we just need to learn how to win a close game … we have a tough region and have goal each game of putting more shots on goal.” The Lady Tide’s night wasn’t as good, as they were pounded by St. Vincent’s Academy, 10-0.
The Saints were ranked No. 5 by EurosportScorebaord.com.
It was the Lady Tide’s second consecutive loss, dropping their overall record to 6-4 and their region mark to 4-4, while the Saints improved to 8-2 overall.
Today, both Tide teams are back on the field as they host Bryan County.  The region games originally were scheduled for March 18, but had to be rescheduled due to bad weather.
The girls’ game kicks off at 5 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow.
