Two more burn victims of sugar plant blast released from hospital

POSTED: April 26, 2008 5:00 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Two more patients with burns from an explosion at a Georgia sugar refinery have been released from the hospital.

The Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta said Friday that just four patients remained in the burn center of the 20 transported there after the Feb. 7 blast at the Imperial Sugar plant in Port Wentworth near Savannah.

Three are in critical condition, one is listed as fair. Two others are in the hospital's rehab unit.

Five patients died.

Investigators have said the explosion, which fatally injured 13 workers and injured dozens, was fueled by airborne sugar dust at the refinery.
