First Presbyterian Christian Academy honored its senior soccer players Thursday at St. James Field during the final home games of the season. The Highlander seniors had plenty to cheer about, including both matches against Robert Toombs Academy ending in shutouts.
The Lady ’Landers’ 6-0 Georgia Independent School Association Region 2-AA victory featured a hat trick by Cecilia Graham. Auset Gibbs scored two goals, and senior Brooke Standard had one.
With the win, the girls improve to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the region.
Immediately following the girls’ game, seniors Hannah Floyd, Summer Mehalko, Brooke Standard and Bethany Lormis were honored.
Next, the Highlander boys took the field and notched an 8-0 win. Nate Hart scored two goals, one off a penalty kick, to lead the squad. Domonique Kirkley, Tareak Barnes, Tyler Causer, Clark Sukaratana, Dylan McGarry and Stanford Graham each had one goal.
The FPCA boys made 20 shots on goal and allowed only five shots on goal.
During halftime, the Highlanders honored a large outgoing class of soccer starters. Eleven athletes will head out after the season.
Seniors David Chin, Zach Vasquez, Domonique Kirkley, Wallace Smith, Nate Hart, Clark Sukaratana, Ricky Gilliard, Stanford Graham, Dylan McGarry, Tareak Barnes and Tyler Causer enjoyed a moment surrounded by friends and family during the ceremony.
The Highlander boys are 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the region.
The Highlanders’ regular season is over, and the teams are preparing for the playoffs, which start April 22.
