The Long County baseball team last week claimed a win Wednesday at Vidalia, but then fell Friday at Bacon County.
Last Tuesday, Long County pitcher Zach Duncan was all business as the senior had his best game of the year, leading the Blue Tide to a 6-0 win over Vidalia High School. Duncan went the full seven innings, only giving up two hits and one walk to go with two strikeouts.
“Zach threw extremely well. Seven complete innings with only 68 total pitches is a very impressive outing,” Blue Tide head coach Tyler Rogers said.
Rogers also praised the rest of his team, saying that everyone played good defense, and their batting improved as the game went on.
Clay Strickland and Duncan each batted 2 for 3.  Phillip Swindell, Tristan Goodro, Cole Ray and Cody Fleck also picked up hits for the Tide.
Last Friday, the Blue Tide traveled to Alma to take on Bacon County in a Region 2-AA battle that went down to the wire. The Raiders came up with a few more big plays in the seventh to win, 4-3.
With last week’s results, the Blue Tide sat at 11-11 overall and 6-8 in the region entering this week’s games.
Long County was scheduled to host Toombs County on Tuesday. Results from that game were not available at press time. On Friday, the Blue Tide travel to Metter for more region action. That game begins at 6 p.m.
