Last Friday was a good night for the Long County High School soccer teams, as both the girls and boys claimed 10-0 wins over Metter in Ludowici.
With the wins, the boys improved to 6-7 overall and 4-7 in Region 2-AA, while the girls improved to 9-4 and 7-4. The Lady Tide, who have clinched a playoff berth, have been unstoppable in recent weeks, having won their last three games by a combined score of 31-0.
Prior to those games, the soccer and golf teams recognized their five graduates with senior-night festivities.
For the boys’ soccer team, Randall Gabriel Behrendt and Juan Carlos Chihuahua were honored. On the girls’ soccer team, Kelsey Higgason and Maria Sanchez were recognized.
Savannah Hreha was the lone senior honored from the golf team.
Behrendt has been a member of the soccer team since it began two years ago and also is a member of the football team. After graduation, he plans on joining the military with a goal of becoming a Navy SEAL. He was escorted by his mother, Jana Wagner.
Chihuahua said he would like to be a manager, coach or possibly even a player. Chihuahua was escorted by his brother, Rugio Moreno.
Higgason has played soccer all four years of her high-school career, but this was her first year playing for the Lady Tide. She garnered several awards as a senior, including being selected as LCHS’ Wendy’s High School Heisman recipient. Also, according to MaxPreps.com, prior to Friday’s game, Higgason was the leading scorer in the nation, having netted 36 goals. After graduation, she will attend Armstrong Atlantic State University on a soccer scholarship, and she has a goal of eventually joining the Peace Corps. She was escorted by her parents, Karen and Rusty.
This also was Sanchez’s first year playing soccer for LCHS. She also plans on attending AASU to major in economics. Sanchez was escorted by her mother, Virginia.
Hreha has been a member of the golf team for two years and also is a member of the nationally recognized Blue Tide Marching Band. She plans to pursue a degree in nursing. Hreha was escorted by her mother, Tracey Hugo.
