Hinesville will celebrate Georgia Cities Week the week of April 20-26. During that time, the city will host several events to reflect the 2014 theme, “People, Place and Purpose!”
Georgia Cities Week is a 15-year initiative organized by the Georgia Municipal Association. It focuses on the importance of cities sharing information about the valuable services they provide while positively impacting residents’ quality of life. The week also is an opportunity to celebrate community achievements and recognize volunteers and city employees.
“Georgia Cites Week is part of our ongoing effort to raise public awareness about the services we provide and to educate the public on how city government works,” Hinesville public-relations manager Krystal Hart said. “We have involved our schools, businesses, chamber of commerce/CVB, media and civic clubs in the planning of these events. We are confident there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
Events planned for the week include an Earth Day celebration, Cupcake War with a public-safety display, Read across Liberty day, a citywide litter cleanup and a community gospel concert.
A pre-celebration of events kicked off April 17 with the State of Hinesville Address by Mayor Jim Thomas and a lunchtime concert in Bradwell Park on Good Friday.
