Liberty County High School spent two separate days competing at the Region 3-AAAA track meet at Cross Creek High in Augusta. The long travels last Wednesday and Friday paid off as the Panther boys and girls finished second overall in the region.
Statesboro High finished first overall.
Several Lady Panthers took first-place wins to help the Liberty girls score 108 points. Courtney Bennett placed first in the discus throw (134’ 9”) and first in the shot put (34’ 6.75”). Lady Panther Alyisha Anderson placed first in the triple jump (36’ 1.5”). She was also part of the first-place 4X100 meter relay, along with Destiny Hall, Jaelynn James and Tiffany Walker. The girls finished in 49.7 seconds. Hall placed first in the 100-meter dash (12.8). Walker placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdle (18.04).
Lady Panther Alexis Johnson took second in the 300-meter hurdle (49.88). Alyssa Dennis finished second in the pole vault (8’ 0”). Kourtney Gamble placed fourth in the discus throw (93’ 1”). And Coyana White finished second in the 800-meter run (2:41).
The boys scored 101 points for second place. Panther Freddie McSwain placed first in the high jump (6’ 4”) and Thomas Fields placed first in the pole vault. Demetrius Anderson ran the distance races and finished first in the 800-meter run (1:59) and the 1600-meter run (4:38). Khaleed Barrett finished second in the 800-meter run (2:01) and 1600-meter run (4:40) and ran in the 4x400 relay team that finished fourth with Jordan Waters, Desmon Hines, Marc Dickey and Phillip Williams (3:32).
Panther Jarquel Richardson placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.34) and third in the 200 (23.07). Theodis Wilcox placed third in the 100 (11.34) and Christian Helvie placed fourth in the pole vault (9’ 6”).
These Panther athletes qualified to compete at the sectional meet in Macon this weekend.
