First Presbyterian Christian Academy’s soccer teams earned shutout-wins in their respective soccer games Tuesday and Wednesday.
The FPCA boys took on Trinity Christian at James Brown Park Tuesday, winning 3-0. The Lady ’Landers played at St. James Field on Wednesday, winning, 5-0, over Piedmont Academy.
In the boys’ match, the visiting Lions took a rare approach to a playoff match, using all 10 players in their side of the field. With the strictly defensive maneuver, the Lions were doing what they could to prevent the Highlanders from running up the score by closing the middle lane shots on goal.
Trinity succeeded in keeping the Highlanders scoreless in the first half. Looking to possibly take the game to a penalty-kick match, Trinity maintained the defensive stance in the second half.
During intermission, Highlander coach Tom Sukaratana charted a change of strategy on his dry-erase board and the FPCA boys took note.
FPCA’s first goal came from Clark Sukaratana off a penalty kick. Tyler Causer scored the next two goals off assists from Sukaratana and Stanford Graham.
Late in the game, Trinity started to attack on FPCA’s third of the field. But the visiting team waited too long to respond and the Highlanders were too strong. FPCA never gave up a shot on goal.
The Highlander boys took 22 shots on goal and had five corner kicks.
The boys advance to round two, holding a 10-4-2 overall mark and 4-2 Region 2-AA in the Georgia Independent School Association Classifications.

Girls
In Wednesday’s girls’ match, Piedmont also played mostly defense, but it was primarily due to the constant attack the Highlander girls placed on the Lady Cougars’ side of the field.
Lady ’Lander Mary Kathryn Whitney scored the first goal with a shot down the middle lane. Just before the half, Cecilia Graham made a corner kick and Brooke Standard leaped, heading the ball into the goal for the 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Whitney played the midfield and scored off a shot from the left side. And freshman Cecilia Graham knocked in two goals for the win.
Currently sitting at 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the region, the Lady ’Landers advance to round two.
As of Thursday afternoon, it looks like the boys will face Lafayette Christian and the girls will play LaGrange. The details still are being worked out based on potential bad weather in the area next week.
