Liberty schools release mobile app

Information, announcements, schedules on app

POSTED: May 5, 2014 10:29 a.m.

The Liberty County School System recently released a new, district-wide mobile communications application from School Connect. The free app, which is available for Apple and Android mobile devices, will be used to keep the school community updated with district information and announcements. LCSS Executive Director of Technology Patti Crane unveiled the app at a community forum Thursday night at the performing arts center and demonstrated a few of its features.
“We’re very excited this evening to share our app with all of you,” Crane said. “It is for the iPhone and iPad as well as for the Android. We’re excited, we want you to have it at your fingertips.”
Understanding the busy schedules of parents, students and patrons, the district released the app to enable smartphone and tablet users to keep track of important information and receive notices from the district, faculty and staff, all in real time via push notifications and email messaging.
The mobile app is designed to enhance community engagement by providing users with access to information like school activities, grade books, notes from teachers, athletic schedules and scores, lunch menus and school calendars, according to a news release provided by the school system.
“The new Liberty County School System app gives parents and the community quick and easy access to important school/district information,” Schools Superintendent Dr. Valya S. Lee said. “Parents can check their students’ grades, view school calendars, lunch menus and much more right from their smartphone.”
The app is a secure and flexible communication platform that allows the district to easily manage, control and deliver content that enhances the school-to-community communications process. Features for the district’s app include the following:
• Push notifications from the district level
• School calendars
• Online grade book access
• Tap screens for email and phone for district staff and board of education members
• Multiple language options, including Spanish
• Lunch menus, athletic information and more
“School Connect is excited to be working with the Liberty County School System to help reach the district’s goals for effective and accessible communications throughout the entire school community,” said Dr. Nick Migliorino, the founder and president of School Connect and a former educator. “People are busier than ever and rely on their mobile devices to be connected to what matters most. School Connect allows schools and community members to stay connected through a free and robust mobile platform that will continue to evolve based on their needs.”
The Liberty County School System School Connect app is available to download and use for free for Apple and Android users.
