The Long County 4-H Club recently released its schedule for the summer, and according to program coordinator Lisa Overbey, there once again will be plenty of activities for local youth.
On May 29, club members will go to Brunswick for a day at Summer Waves. Cost to attend is $25, which covers entry to the park and lunch. Those planning to  participate need to bring money for anything extra, such as snacks. District Project Achievement participants need to bring $8 for lunch, according to Overbey.
On June 20-22, the state 4-H council will be held at Camp Rock Eagle. Overbey said the cost is $65; students entering eighth through 12th grades are eligible to attend. She said that in addition to the traditional workshop sessions and Iron Clover competition, delegates also will elect state officers and participate in the citizenship ceremony. She said that any student planning to attend needs to contact her as soon as possible.
From 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 24, a teen-leader training session will be held at the Ludowici office, which is next to the Long County Courthouse on McDonald Street. Overbey said it is for junior and senior 4-Hers. Those interested in becoming a teen leader need to attend the training.
“Being a teen leader takes dedication, leadership and loyalty … this is an ongoing job for the most-reliable 4-Hers,” Overbey said.
Cost to attend is $5, which covers lunch and the badge.
On June 26-27, the club will attend the Georgia 4-H Appreciation “Knight” at Medieval Times in Atlanta. Cost to attend is $100, which includes transportation and a ticket to the dinner show. Overbey said the fee has to be paid in full by June 1 and that participants have to bring their own spending money.
On July 19-20, the club will attend 4-H Day with the Atlanta Braves. Cost to attend is $75 for 4-Hers and certified adult leaders, and $100 for other participants. Cost includes transportation, a T-shirt, lodging, breakfast and a ticket into the baseball game. Cost must be paid by July 1.
On July 22, the club will hold a portfolio workshop at the Ludowici office. Overbey said there is no charge for the event and lunch will be provided. She said the group will work on activities to go with their project, such as speeches and posters.
For more information on any of these activities or how to become a member or an adult volunteer, call 545-9549 or drop by the office during business hours Monday through Friday.
