The Hinesville Hurricanes semi-professional football team fell in the second round of the Elite Football League playoffs to the Commandos, 38-0, May 3 in Jacksonville.
The host team got a quick jump on the ’Canes, and the visitors never recovered.
Hurricanes head coach James Sharp said it was a difficult season. Injuries and military training kept many potential starters either off the field or away from play and practice for extended periods. He said the team kept pushing forward and was pleased that it qualified for the playoffs.
Hurricanes Tracy Lewis, Charles Crossley, Chauncey Crossley, Kenneth Rutherford, Adrian Smith, Alphonso Brewster, Gavin Whitfield, Jamie Sharp, Timothy Darden and Kenneth Badger will be featured in the league’s All-Star Game, scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in Daytona.
Coach Sharp said the Commandos also had several players slated to play in the All-Star Game. But, he added, since the Commandos will be playing in the championship game being played immediately after the All-Star Game, the league has requested several more Hurricane players for the all-star roster.
The coach said the league will soon provide the final All-Star roster, which should include seven more ’Canes.
