State lawmaker seeking re-election

State Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Savannah) has announced he will seek re-election to House District 164.
Stephens was elected in 1997 to the Georgia House after serving as a councilman on the Garden City City Council.
District 164 includes the Fleming area of Liberty County.
He is best known as the named author of the Stephens-Day property tax relief initiative that was passed by Chatham County voters in a 2000 referendum. Similar legislation modeled after Stephens-Day has passed in several Georgia counties, including Liberty
"I have decided to seek re-election for House District 164," Stephens said. "I have a strong desire to find a solution to our troubled trauma care network and a need to continue to improve the economic base for the Savannah area, as well as, the state of Georgia."
Stephens is a pharmacist and the owner of the QuickRx drug store chain. He is chairman of the House Economic Development and Tourism Committee and serves on the Appropriations Committee, the Ways & Means Committee, and the Rules Committee.
