Scholarship tourney was success

Letter to editor

POSTED: May 20, 2014 9:30 p.m.

Editor, The 10th annual scholarship golf tournament was held April 12, and it was the culmination of several events this year hosted by the Liberty County Dr. M.L. King Jr. Observance Association.
Our tournaments have been highly successful over the years, and we attribute this success to three key factors. First, we have a dedicated golf committee that serves on a volunteer basis; second, our corporate sponsors; and thirdly, players who make for an exciting day of fellowship and golf.
This year’s golf tournament was well attended and very successful. I am extremely grateful and want to thank all of our sponsors, players and volunteers, because without their support, none of this would be possible.
We were blessed with beautiful weather and were able to raise funds to offer several scholarships this year to deserving seniors graduating from our local high schools.
We were elated to have 16 teams supporting the tournament. The Rev. Alvin Jackson, the association president, was on hand to welcome and thank everyone for supporting this event. After enjoying the fellowship and lunch, the tournament was on.
Congratulations to the winners! First place went to The Short Ball Hackers, comprised of Grayden Pretz, Beau Sundrery, Tommy Pauley and Craig Leary. Second place went to First AB, comprised of Neal Dawson, Mickey Sapp, Telvin Sullivan and Cory Dawson. Finally, third place went to Arnold & Stafford, comprised of Coach Clifford Johnson, Pat Edwards, Joe Anderson and Andy Anderson.
Meanwhile, Ken Hargrove had the longest drive, and Tommy Pauley won the closest-to-the-pin contest.
I extend special thanks to the following:
• Gold corporate sponsors: Jones, Osteen and Jones; KC Brothers Construction
• Corporate sponsors: CH2M Hill-OMI; Fussell Bonding; Hinesville Ford; Brown’s Tax and Accounting; Kyoto Japanese Restaurant; Strategic Business Solutions; and Hibachi Buffett

• Door-prize donors: Taylor’s Creek Country Club; Fort Stewart’s MWR; Lamas Cleaners; and Dixon Golf
I also want to sincerely thank our volunteers: the Rev. Alvin Jackson, MLKOA president; Chairman Donald Lovette; Mayor Pro Tem Charles Frasier; Joe Ford; Daisy Jones; Victoria Allen; Laucenia Frasier; Velma Wilson; and the Taylor’s Creek Golf Course staff, Mr. Parlor and Chuck.
