Can you believe school already is out for the summer? It seems like it was just yesterday that we began day one of the 2013-14 school year in Liberty County and “set sail” on a course of excellence toward developing the 21st century learner. It’s been a busy year of change; but overall, a great year with numerous successes and accomplishments. I am so very proud of our bright and talented students as well as our dedicated faculty and staff in the Liberty County School System. The process has been labor-intensive, but all to the benefit of our students.
Student-performance data indicate learning and achievement are up in all content areas, across all levels and within all subgroups. While our CCPRI scores for 2013 reflected a decline, we remain hopeful as it relates to our 2014 scores. As evidenced during our ongoing monitoring efforts, our principal leaders have done a good job of maximizing opportunities for growth. We expect increases in any number of performance indicators on the index. Likewise, disciplinary infractions are way down as a result of our Positive Interventions and Behavior Supports initiative. In short, LCSS is on the move. We are headed in a positive direction and we are excited about it.
I offer stakeholders across the county my sincere appreciation for the support you have given LCSS this school year and I look forward to working with you next year to continue the work that has begun in strengthening community relations. Here’s wishing each student, employee and all other LCSS family members a safe, enjoyable and productive summer. I look forward to seeing you in a few short weeks when we swing wide the doors at our 14 learning sites to welcome you back to school for the 2014-15 academic year. From all indications, it promises to be a great year of teaching and learning in Liberty County. Stay tuned, because the best is yet to come!

Lee’s school-system experiences include serving as superintendent in two Georgia school districts prior to her appointment as superintendent of schools in Liberty County.
