Strong winds blew through a section of Long County on Wednesday afternoon, damaging a family owned business.

Ruth Ann Foster and her husband Elton Foster own the Foster Flooring and Carpet business in the 5600 block of Highway 196 west near the Long/Tattnall County line.

Ruth Foster said they were not home at the time of the storm, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. and were shocked to find the roof of the business they have operated for over 30 years heavily damaged. The roof of the building from which they run their carpet business was in pieces, strewn throughout the backyard of their home about 75 feet away.

Elton Foster said a minivan the family uses was parked in the structure but was not damaged despite a wall leaning precariously next to it.

Metal and wood that had flown from the structure damaged a pickup truck parked nearby.

The couple have insurance and plan on rebuilding.
