Seven Ministries grateful for support

Letter to editor

POSTED: May 31, 2014 4:30 p.m.

Editor, The board of directors of Seven Ministries of Liberty County Inc. would like to thank the community for supporting the 2014 Jackie Gilliard-Henderson Memorial Scholarship Walk-a-Thon fundraiser. The weather was a little chilly for our fourth annual event, but the crowd was one of the largest we’ve had and, again, we say thanks.
There was a lot happening in the community that weekend, but the people who we depend on for support showed up, as we knew they would. Those who are with you will be with you regardless.
The funds raised will go straight back into the community via the seven programs that we have under our umbrella. It’s a blessing when the community gives so that we can give back.
I recently had a conversation with Pastor Katrina Deason of the Liberty County Manna House. She said, “God wants each of us to serve as a distribution center for one another, and if those that are fortunate give to those that are less fortunate, then the world would be a better place.”
I agree with Pastor Deason wholeheartedly. It’s good when the haves help the have-nots.
While some people see our work in the community as a self-serving, promotional tool of sorts, I refer them to Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV): “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, faith. Meekness, temperance, against such there is no law.”
In layman’s terms, there is no such thing as too much good.
And Proverbs 3:27 (KJV): “Withhold not good to them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.”
Layman’s terms here simply mean if you can help someone, then you should help them.
Donations still are coming in. Since I don’t want to omit anyone, I will refrain from naming our supporters, but they know who they are and that we appreciate them. Like Seven Ministries, our supporters do what they do because it’s in their hearts, and to that I say, “To God be the glory.”
