The city of Hinesville is providing free mulch to the public as part of its reduce-reuse-recycle efforts.
The city offered this service in the past, but discontinued it for a short time to revamp the process.
“There was a problem finding a suitable grinding contractor, and our stock pile grew. But at this time, we have a good process and we hope this will keep us offering this for a long time,” project manager Bobby Ryon said.
The mulch is derived from the grinding of yard waste picked up from residences in Hinesville. The yard waste is stockpiled, grinded and available on-site.
The mulch can be used for gardening, flowering beds, fill material, etc.
Mulch is available while supplies last at the public-works facility on E.G. Miles Parkway in the container on-site.
It is accessible from
8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday at the facility on JV Road while supplies last.
“This is a perfect opportunity for the city to return a portion of citizens’ tax dollars back to them by providing this service,” City Manager Billy Edwards said. “It is also an environmentally-friendly effort as we reduce waste in the landfill and turn it into something that can be used by our residents.”
