Become truly free with law of God

Pastor's corner

POSTED: June 2, 2014 7:00 p.m.

“Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded, but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be. And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? Then is the offence of the cross ceased. I would they were even cut off which trouble you. For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.” — Galatians 5:7-15

Believing that you are free is not the same as being free.
Being free is not only knowing, but also realizing that what you have can never be taken away from you despite the obstacles, situations or present circumstances. People in jail can be free, and yet, people who consider themselves free can be in prison.
You have to know you are free. Trying to live up to a fulfilled law is pointless, and that reasoning denies that Christ had the ability to fulfill it. Many try to convince others that they must follow the law and them, or they will be disobedient or outside the will of God. They need to realize one thing: The law is for dead men and freedom is for disciples.
Those of us who are alive in Christ know and realize that we are free from the yoke of bondage and free to live a fulfilled life by demonstrating the very thing that has fulfilled the law — love.
Let me explain. There are some people who have others follow law as they see it — law that is built up only because other people have iconized or immortalized them and made them greater than they really are. Or they believe their position on God is greater than others’. They have become their biggest idol. Remember, the bigger the idol, the greater amount of gold it will take to feed it. You will never satisfy the need or greed for money.
The law of man, law of hierarchy, law of denomination, law of church, law of titles, law of the tithe, law of bondage — we could keep going if we wanted. Each of these positions has destroyed the law of God, because it has the will of man involved in it. When the will is not working, the law is made manifest. When the will is not interfering, the law is free to operate.
The law operates all by itself, the same all the time, every time. Take the law of gravity, for instance: “What goes up must come down, unless another force interrupts what naturally is supposed to occur.” The law of gravity does not depend on anyone believing, understanding or improving it. Its constant force keeps moving regardless of what we think. It always will produce the same effect.
