Liberty Regional Medical Center is looking for a new chief financial officer after former CFO Sam Johnson recently resigned.
Rene’ Harwell, director of marketing for Liberty Regional, would not elaborate on Johnson’s departure except to confirm that he resigned. Johnson’s duties as CFO are temporarily being filled by the hospital’s accounting director, she said.
“Sam Johnson recently resigned his position as chief financial officer of Liberty Regional Medical Center to pursue other opportunities,” Harwell said. “Currently, our director of accounting is handling the day-to-day financial operations of the organization during the interim.”
According to Harwell, Johnson had been employed with LRMC for nine years. She said the hospital currently is advertising for the open CFO position. When a selection is made, she said the Liberty County Hospital Authority will have its say in the hiring process.
Regarding what may be perceived as a lack of detail surrounding Johnson’s departure, Hospital Authority Chairman James Rogers dispelled speculation that there’s more to the story.
“(Mr. Johnson) resigned on his own,” Rogers said, confirming that accounting director Derek Rozier will handle Johnson’s duties until a replacement is hired. “We don’t have any investigation or anything like that going on. I’ve heard some of the rumors, but I want people to know they’re not true.”
In addition, Maj. Thomas Cribbs, commander of the Hinesville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, told the Courier on Tuesday that he was not aware of any investigation of wrong-doing at Liberty Regional Medical Center.
