Waldo Pafford Elementary School hosted its sixth annual Parent and Child Fun and Learning Day in January.
The event was to provide parents with an opportunity to visit the school, have fun and to learn how to help their children succeed on campus.
Parents attend workshops while their children participate in games and other activities with the Waldo Pafford Elementary School staff.
The faculty conducted the parent workshop with teachers providing learning activities for them, focusing math and language arts.
The parents’ schedule was divided into three sessions; one for reading, one for math and one for art. The parents left the workshop with many hands-on activities they could do at home with heir children.
This year, art teacher Carol Hough provided parents and children with an opportunity to create an project together.
The last session of the workshop was devoted to principal-parent discussion on the role of parents and the need for students to respect school rules and authority.
The parents watched the following videos: “Remember You Are The Adult And You Are In Charge” and “Building Respect For Rules, Authority and Other People.”
The sessions provided parents with positive reminders of what they need to do to be effective.
Door prizes, consisting of gift cards from Wal-Mart and local restaurants, were also given away.
