With summer winding down and football season fast approaching, it is crucial for high-school programs to get as much out of the players as possible during their offseason conditioning programs.
Long County High School head coach Ron Flott said that this is one area where his Blue Tide players are excelling.
“All the kids are working hard. We’ve had great numbers out here all summer. They’re pushing themselves, and I couldn’t be more pleased with what they’ve been putting into the program,” he said.
Flott said the players have been working out in the weight room and doing drills on the field.
He said that, as always, he and his coaching staff are pushing the kids, but also making sure that they get plenty of breaks and drink lots of water.
In addition to the conditioning, Flott said the skill players have attended two 7-on-7 camps and that the whole team will be at the Godfather’s Football Camp today and Thursday in Burke County.
On Aug. 1, Flott said, the team will begin practicing in full pads.
After that, it is regular practices for the rest of the season.
The Blue Tide have their first scrimmage Aug. 15 in Ludowici against Claxton. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
