The flashing yellow school-zone lights along Oglethorpe Highway were a stark reminder Tuesday that a new school year is right around the corner.
Though it seems like just yesterday that summer break began, the Liberty County School System’s first day of school — or “Day One,” as LCSS refers to it — is next Wednesday, Aug. 6.
Open houses will be on the day before; from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for pre-K and 3-6 p.m. for K-12.
Two Parent Technology Information sessions are scheduled for 5 and 7 tonight at the Liberty County Performing Arts Center. Tonight’s sessions are for parents of high-school students, as the high schools will be the first to distribute new iPads to students in the coming weeks.
“We are poised to work hard to provide the best education possible for learners in Liberty County,” LCSS Superintendent Dr. Valya Lee said. “Our aim is to foster warm, people-centered environments throughout our school system.”
See today’s special back-to-school section for more details and in-depth coverage of all the new and developments coming for the 2014-’15 school year.
