Hinesville leaders are having their annual planning workshop through Friday at St. Simons Island’s Sea Palms Resort.
The mayor, council members, city manager, assistant manager, city attorney, city engineer and select department heads will spend nearly three days discussing and addressing issues, concerns and objectives for the next fiscal year.
The workshop begins late Wednesday afternoon with leaders prioritizing nearly 30 issues they plan to discuss.
On Thursday and Friday, they will discuss issues affecting Hinesville residents, like extending alcoholic-beverage Sunday sales to include liquor stores, alcoholic-beverage and food-sales quarterly reports to clarify when to suspend or revoke a license for non-compliance, imposing a fee or tax on renters to offset a proposed rollback on property taxes and, eliminating fluoride in the city’s drinking water.
Other discussion topics include a review of proposed city projects if the new special-purpose local-option sales tax is approved in November and updated information on construction of the new Liberty campus for Armstrong State University and the Liberty County Library, both on Memorial Drive.
All issues usually are discussed and addressed by 5 p.m. on Friday, but leaders are prepared to stay through noon Saturday if necessary.
