The Long County Recreation Department held its annual Back-to-School Bash on last Saturday, and according to Randy Simmons, this year’s turnout was one of the largest since the event’s inception.
“We’ve had a really good turnout today. A lot of families are out here, and everyone is having a good time,” he said.
The BB-gun and archery ranges, fire safe house, obstacle course, waterslide and play-land bounce area proved popular with attendees. Charlie Smith served as the emcee for the day, and free water, hotdogs, popcorn and sno-cones were available.
Calvary Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Ludowici, a New Beginning Church, the Ludowici/Long County Fire Department, the Long County 4-H Club, the Wildlife Festival and Graceland Bounce House were among the event sponsors.
Eric Little, who enjoyed the festivities with his wife and three children, said the bash was one of the best events his family had attended in some time.
“This is great. My kids are having a blast, and everyone is just so nice,” Little said.
Simmons, who said the recreation department stages the annual event to celebrate the community’s children returning to school, stressed that it would not be possible without the sponsors’ help.
“On behalf of the recreation department director, I just want to thank all of the people who came out today, and especially thank all of the volunteers and the sponsors,” Simmons said.
