The American Red Cross Battle of the Badges is back with Round 3. On Aug. 22, representatives from the local sheriff’s office, police department, fire department and emergency medical service will battle it out to see who can recruit the most people in the community to donate blood.
The Battle of the Badges blood drive is four rounds of friendly competition to encourage community members to join local heroes and perform a heroic duty of their own. All presenting donors at the blood drive will get to cast their vote to help decide the winner of this year’s competition.
After two rounds, the fire department is winning with 30 votes, while the sheriff’s office is right behind with 26 votes. The police department has 17 votes, and EMS has 10.
“EMS, fire and law enforcement know firsthand how important it is to have blood readily available during emergencies,” said Jerry Tillery, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region. “This is their chance to join forces and partner with the Red Cross to encourage the community to take on the civic responsibility of blood donation.”
To participate, members of the community can donate blood from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 22 in the Red Cross Bloodmobile parked in the district attorney’s office parking lot, 945 E.G. Miles Parkway in Hinesville.
Votes are needed to help determine the winner of this year’s battle, who will earn bragging rights and a trophy.
Schedule an appointment to donate at the Battle of the Badges blood drive. Go to redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code “dao” or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
