STATESBORO — The beginning of an era for Georgia Southern begins with two events for the Eagles’ home opener on Sept. 6 as GSU will recognize its unprecedented six national championships and the game ball will be delivered by parachute drop by the Golden Knights.
With the goal of packing Paulson, GSU Athletics has promotions planned for the historic home season opener and for every game of the season, including the two ESPNU televised games on Sept. 25 and Oct. 30.
Members of the inaugural 1982 football team and Eagles representing all six national champion teams be recognized and will take part in a ceremony prior to the season opener Sept. 6. Flags, representing the most Division I-AA titles by any program, will be placed to the top of the new Football Operations Center during the ceremony.
Georgia Southern will also hold the “Night of Champions” and the GATA Club reunion on Sept. 6. “Getting Athletes Together Again,” to reunite Eagle student-athletes, this evening also pairs recent Southern Conference championship teams from the 2013-14 season with a previous league champion.
Eight teams will be honored at this year’s “Night of Champions” with each celebrating their championships: the 2013 and 2003 SoCon Volleyball teams; the 2014 and 2003 Men’s Golf teams; the 2014 and 1999 Eagle Softball teams; and 2014 and 2000 Georgia Southern Baseball teams.
Active military personnel and veterans are admitted free to the Savannah State game with their military ID card and additional tickets for family members are $17 each. Family member tickets must be purchased over the phone or in person at the Athletics Ticket Office to receive the discount. Day-of-game sales for the discount military family tickets will be at Gate 7.
A special first come, first-served free ticket distribution for military members and their families will be handled by unit commanders or leaders for some veterans groups and military recruiters in the area.
Military personnel, including Department of Defense civilians may contact the Fort Stewart MWR at 767-8660 for information on receiving tickets.

The annual BLUE OUT moves to Thursday, Sept. 25, for Georgia Southern’s first home Sun Belt Conference game. Fans are encouraged to wear blue to the nationally televised game. An official BLUE OUT T-shirt will be unveiled and available for purchase on GSEagles.com.
Homecoming is Oct. 11 against Idaho. The Georgia Southern Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2014 will be introduced.
Student Appreciation Night is Oct. 30. Prizes, including flat-screen TVs, and Georgia Southern gear, will take place on a backdrop of the Eagles’ second nationally televised game.
The first season in the Sun Belt Conference and FBS concludes with the recognition of the Eagle Seniors and fans with Senior Night and Fan Appreciation Night on Nov. 29.
The youngest fans are also part of the season finale with Youth Day, national “Take A Kid to the Game Day” and Cheerleader Clinic.
Season tickets for the Eagles’ first year in the Sun Belt Conference and FBS are on sale now at GSEagles.com/fbtix and weekdays 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. by calling 1-800-GSU-WINS.
