The Liberty County High School softball team was dealt a 9-0 loss by South Effingham on Tuesday at home.
The Lady Panthers still were licking a few wounds from the Warriors’ Blast Tournament last weekend.
Starting catcher Cassidy Collum sat out Tuesday’s game to nurse an injury, but is expected to return relatively soon. Kathryn Carter pitched after missing the team’s two previous matchups because of a knee injury.

Also, Kaleigh Fisher and Diamond Richardson both were returning from missing two games due to injuries as well.
The Mustangs managed nine runs — seven earned — on nine hits against the normally unhittable Carter. It wasn’t for her lack of effort, but more the Mustangs’ day to hit. Carter walked only two batters.
On the flip side, the Mustangs’ Olivia Laverenz struck out eight Lady Panthers and allowed just one hit, a triple by Fisher.
“South Effingham has always been a strong and physical team, and they continue to display that,” Lady Panther softball coach Jerome Standard said.
The Lady Panthers will be in Statesboro today and Saturday for the Battle of the ’Boro tournament. They are scheduled to play Dublin and Statesboro at 4 and 6 p.m. today, respectively. They face Heritage at 9 a.m. Saturday.
In other softball news, the Bradwell Lady Tigers were scheduled to play at Effingham County on Thursday.
The Lady Tigers also are participating in the Battle of the ’Boro at 4 p.m. today when they play Treutlen and at 6 p.m. against East Laurens. They play Ware County at 9 a.m. Saturday.
