Although prices keep rising, the cost of a good meal and some exhilarating entertainment has not gone up at Frank Long Elementary School.
In fact, for just $4 per person hundreds of parents, students and faculty were able to eat hamburgers and chips, bid on some goody-filled baskets, and enjoy an action-packed show May 2.  Dinner kicked off around 5:30, and the show, showcasing some of the students, parents and teachers' talent was launched by Jennifer Avila singing "Start All Over."
The audience was wowed by a hoju demonstration, a gymnastics routine, an electronic anime display, and an original song and poem recital, to name just a few of the acts. The crowning point of the evening was a dance routine to Michael Jackson's "Thriller," which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
"There is no real winner of our show," Deborah Starkey, co-chairperson of the talent show committee, said, "except the audience, that is. I could have never performed in public at their age, so I applaud them all for their courage and their fortitude.
"They don't do it for themselves, though. They do it for their friends and family and because they know that all of the proceeds will be used to support educational programs at Frank Long.  The students have been practicing for a few months and have put on one exciting show. It sure will be hard to beat next year."
