Sunday, July 27, will mark a milestone in the history of the Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church. Members will be moving from their present sanctuary at 71 Kent Road in Walthourville to 4424 Oglethorpe Highway West in Allenhurst.
Although only about a mile’s distance separates the former from the latter, the members are moving to a new location and a new city.
“This is God’s doing,” said Pastor Charlie. L. Anderson. Better known as Rev. C. L. Anderson, he is founder and pastor of Good Shepherd.
“God gave me a vision to build a church in the Walthourville/Allenhurst community. I thank God for the members we have. We have walked by faith, and I give God all the glory, praise, and honor for the wonderful things He has done,” Anderson said.
Next Saturday, at 7:30 a.m., members and friends will march from the original site where worship services were on Highway 84 in Walthourville to the new site. Dedication services will be held on July 27 at 4 p.m., with Dr. Clarence Moore, president of the 500,000 members General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia. Moore is also the pastor of Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta.
The church has scheduled a week of dedication services and a week of anniversary services (July 28–Aug. 10). Celebration of the church’s 13th anniversary begins on Aug. 3 at 4 p.m., with Dr. L. Perry McNeal. McNeal serves as a regional vice president of the GMBC of Georgia. He is also the vice moderator of the Tattnall Missionary Baptist Association and pastor of the Jerusalem Missionary Church in Pembroke and Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Claxton. Closeout services with be on Aug. 10 at 2:30 p.m. with Bishop Caverous J. Boggs, pastor of Living Word Church in Lyons. Nightly services will be at 7:30 p.m.
“Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. God has really been good to the Good Shepherd Church family.  We are a church where ‘Everybody is somebody and God is the Father.’ The church has a mixture of local and military members (both active and retired),” Anderson said.
Various ministries are in place to better equip and help members and the community. Some of the ministries include nursing home, mission, evangelism, youth, music, Christian education, prayer band, deacons, deaconesses, ushers and choir. Members visit the nursing home in Ludowici on the First Saturday of the month. The church also has a radio broadcast ministry every Wednesday at 9 p.m. on WTLD (FM 90.5) in Jesup.
No novice to the ministry, Anderson has served in ministry since 1971. He is a seasoned and sought after minister of the gospel. He has traveled extensively spreading the gospel and doing God’s work. Anderson has served as the Moderator of the Tattnall Missionary Baptist Association for the past 29 years, with oversight of 24 churches. He is the first vice coordinator of the Moderator’s Division for the GMBC of Georgia and is the state moderator’s liaison coordinator to the National Baptist Convention. He has inspired many sons and daughters out of his ministries and serves as a spiritual father to many.
Anderson is married to Helen V. Anderson. Wherever you see him, you will normally see his wife. They have been married 40 plus years, and she is his biggest supporter. Whether he is visiting the sick or a neighbor, walking on the track, attending a function, or at church, you will see her right by his side.  They have four children, Philip, Charlie Jr., Phylena and Sharleeta.
“We are marching to Zion,” Anderson said.
The Good Shepherd family invites you to be a part of these historical and momentous celebrations.
