The safety check was conducted in support of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
“We do all we can to support the GHSP especially on the holidays,” the chief said. “On these days they ask us to step it up.”
The checkpoint took place from 5-7 p.m. at Cypress Street and Highway 84 on the east side of the city.
Citations issued during included one DUI, three for suspended licenses, three for expired driver’s license and one for an unregistered vehicle. Two outstanding arrest warrants were also served.
The check was a joint venture with the police department, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Department of Public Safety Motor Carrier Compliance Division, and the Coastal Area Traffic Enforcement Network.
“I felt it was very successful. We had overwhelming support from the public, who said they appreciated us being out there,” Assistant Chief Richard Robertson said.
