RICHMOND HILL -- Robert John Nowlin Jr., 22, a soldier stationed at Fort Stewart, died Monday morning from injuries sustained after being struck by multiple vehicles on Highway 17, near Cartertown Road, according to a representative with the Georgia State Patrol.

Preliminary reports indicate Nowlin and his wife got into an argument. Nowlin got out of their vehicle and started walking north on the highwya. While crossing the highway, he was reportedly struck by one vehicle and run over by a second vehicle.

Bryan emergency workers took Nowlin to a hospital, where he reportedly died several hours later.

Nowlin was a logistical specialist in the 26th Brigade Support Battalion attached to the 130th Infantry of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, which recently returned from Iraq.  He joined the Army from Baltimore, Md. in  2003.
