Local seniors can win car with perfect attendance

POSTED: September 11, 2008 5:00 a.m.
SAVANNAH — Going to school just got sweeter for high school seniors at more than 40 schools in 20 Georgia counties because of the Drive for Perfection Program. Drive For Perfection, an initiative presented by Savannah Chevy dealers, including NeSmith Chevrolet in Hinesville, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Education, will award two students with 2009 Chevy Cobalts for perfect attendance during the 2008-09 school year.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, students who have poor attendance for reasons other than illness are more likely to drop out and to fall behind their peers in the classroom. In its first year, The Chevrolet Drive for Perfection Program was created to give seniors an additional incentive to finish their high school careers strong in order to adequately prepare for post-secondary education or the work force.
“Literacy and education are two initiatives that Chevrolet and its dealers champion through their support of several initiatives in the Southeast region,” said Tim Hudgens, Chevrolet marketing manager for GM’s Southeast region. “The Georgia Department of Education is charged with the significant task of educating the state’s youth, and our local Chevy dealers are honored to provide support to them and high schools in their communities.”
At the completion of the school year, a list will be composed with finalist from the two school regions and a reverse-order drawing will be held after graduation to determine the winner in each region. Perfect attendance will be determined by an eligible student’s attendance record for the first 180 days of the 2008-2009 school year as submitted by local education agencies.
