The Ludowici Police Department arrested three suspects Monday in three different school break-ins in Ludowici.
Last Tuesday and Sunday, Smiley Elementary School was broken into. Walker Middle School was broken into Saturday. The suspects were charged with three counts of burglary.
Computer equipment and other electric appliances were taken from Smiley Elementary last Tuesday. Over the weekend, more computers, digital cameras and electronics were stolen.
Ludowici Police Chief Richard Robertson said he sent out information Wednesday about the break-ins to surrounding police and sheriff’s departments.
On Monday, the Jesup Police Department contacted the LPD and said they had a possible suspect in the break-ins. Robertson and Investigator William Jennings, of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, drove to Jesup.
“We went over to interrogate the suspect, and when we showed him that we had video of him and two others at the school (WMS), he confessed to all three burglaries,” Robertson said.
The suspect is Clay Sweat, 18, of Odum. Robertson said Sweat identified two other suspects, Trevor Foster, 19, and a minor.
Foster was arrested in Jesup on Monday at around 3:30 p.m. and charged with three counts of burglary.  Sweat was released for cooperating with the police and, according to Robertson, he will be charged later in the week.  The juvenile suspect also was arrested and admitted and Robertson said he admitted breaking in to Walker Middle School, but did not confess to the other two crimes.
According to Robertson, the only items recovered from the burglaries were a vacuum cleaner and a microwave oven.  No computer equipment or digital cameras have been recovered.
Sweat’s 2003 GMC truck, which was caught on video leaving Smiley Elementary after the first break-in, also was confiscated.
