The Glynn/Brunswick Narcotics Enforcement Team joined with the Brunswick Police Department Special Services Division, the Glynn County Police Department and the Multi-Agency Crack Enforcement Drug Task Force from Hinesville to help rid the streets of prostitutes and their prospective customers during a 12-hour sting last Friday that netted 20 people on various misdemeanor and felony charges.
The operation began shortly before noon when undercover officers from the MACE Drug Task Force hit the streets and began to arrest individuals linked to prostitution, resulting in the arrests of 15 females accused of prostitution, among other charges.
Later in the day, operatives targeted people seeking the services of prostitutes,  resulting in the arrest of five men.
Capt. Terry Wright, commander of the Glynn/
Brunswick Narcotics En-forcement Team, said the operation targeted suspected prostitutes and potential customers in an effort to clean up the streets of Brunswick and Glynn County.
"This type operation has a positive effect on the community as a whole. It not only gets criminals off the streets, but also helps rid the neighborhoods and business districts of unwelcomed negative appearances," Wright said.
Many arrests were made during daylight hours,
when businesses are
open, children are walking home from school and
people are commuting to work. Of the 20 arrested,
15 were charged with prostitution and six were charged for solicitation. Nine people were charged with possession of drug-related objects at the time of their arrests. One person was charged with reckless conduct and another was charged with possession of cocaine.
