Jack Waters of Colonels Island was chosen recently to replace the late Stephen Mullice as president of the Coastal Electric Cooperative Board of Directors.

The Liberty County resident has been a member of the board since 2000. He previously held the position of vice president.

“I am honored to have been selected by the co-op board to fill this position, and I’m grateful for the confidence of my fellow board members.” Waters said.

Waters is a 1969 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Forestry. He began his career working on St. Catherines Island, where he also met Linda, his wife of 50 years.

In 1979 he joined The Heritage Bank in Hinesville, where he later became a senior vice president. He was a member of the Heritage Bank Board of Directors when he retired in 2006.

In related news, John Woods III was elected to fill the position of vice president vacated by Waters. Laura McGee was re-elected secretary-treasurer.

Coastal Electric is a not-for-profit customer-owned electric cooperative supplying power to roughly 18,000 meters in Bryan, Liberty, Long and McIntosh counties.
